Mystery Genre

Our first literacy genre of the year is mystery. We have been reading mystery books during our whole-group language study time and in our small guided reading groups. Within this genre, students have learned how to summarize a story and analyze a character by brainstorming both inner and outer traits to describe a character from the story we read. Next week, we will be working on writing before, during, and after-reading questions to monitor our comprehension while reading.

Look below for some of the anchor charts we have co-created during this unit of study!

It's a bird...It's a plane...We're SUPER LEARNERS!

Can you guess this year's theme just by reading the heading?  That's right, I decided to go with a superheroes theme this year.  I love all of the bright colors, and I hope my students do too!  As you can see by the pictures I'll post below, I am pretty much finished with our classroom set up.  Tomorrow is our final work day before school starts on Tuesday, and I am anxious to meet my students during tomorrow's "Back to School Night."

Talk to you soon,

Mrs. Albee

One More Month of Summer

It's hard to believe the start of a new school year is only one month away!
Seeing the school supplies lining the aisles of Wal-Mart makes me excited and a little nervous for the start of a new year (yes, teachers get nervous for the first day too!).

I have had a great summer and an eventful one at that!  I got married in June and have spent the rest of the summer hanging out with our two Goldendoodles, Harper and Hadley.  Yes, I am slightly obsessed with my two fur balls.  I am sure you'll be seeing quite a bit of them over the course of the upcoming school year, as I am always taking pictures.

I plan to begin working in my classroom this week, so I will post again once it's all set up for the year.  I like to start each school year with a theme, and I will keep this year's theme a secret until next time...

See you again soon,

Mrs. Albee

See...I told you they were cute! Hadley is on the left and Harper is on the right.

Here is a picture of my husband Trent and I on our wedding day!
